The course developer is a Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center (MO PTAC) Counselor, part of the University of Missouri Extension’s Business Development Program. The MO PTAC network has centers located throughout the state on University of Missouri campuses and facilities, on campuses of other state universities, or in nonacademic locations. Each center provides counseling, coaching, and training related to government contracting mainly for small businesses, including bid matching services for government solicitations. The purpose of this course is strictly to provide information and knowledge. There are no prerequisite knowledge and competencies.
Government Contracting Basics is self-paced and consists of nine modules. Two of the modules are optional: Module 4, Woman Owned Business and Module 5, Veteran Owned Business. All other modules must be completed. No module is more than 15 minutes in length. The entire course should take no more than 90 minutes. At the end of each module, there is a short, ungraded quiz to test your knowledge. Questions can be answered and follow-on assistance provided by contacting the nearest Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center. There is a course registration form to complete and a course completion survey. With the completion of the course, to include the registration and survey, a course completion certificate can be downloaded.

By completing this course, the student will be able to understand the basics of:
- What to do to bid on government contracts
- What certifications the business may qualify for to help win a contract
- The Federal government’s solicitation process
- How to market to the Federal government
All nine modules are delivered in a lecture format using videos.
Assessments and Grading
The course is ungraded, there are quizzes to test your knowledge at the end of each module.
Textbook and Reading Materials
Copies of each module’s slides and speaker notes are available for download. There are no other materials needed.
A course completion certificate is provided with the submission of the training registration form, completion of the required seven modules and the submission of the course satisfaction survey.
