A self-paced course of less than 15 minutes demonstrating global sales opportunities for businesses of any size. With 95% of potential customers living outside of the United States, exporting offers the potential to grow your bottom line. Exporting success by Missouri businesses, even by business with less than 20 employees, how to get started and where to get help are all part of this course.

Course Developer

The course developer is the lead International Trade Field Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension's Small Business Development Center (SBDC).  The SBDC is a network of centers located throughout the state on University of Missouri campuses and facilities, and on the campuses of other state universities.  Each center provides counseling, coaching, training, and specialized services, of which international trade is one, for start-up and existing businesses.  If you have questions on the course's content, contact the center most convenient to your location.  Our centers can be found at

Course Description

The purpose of course is strictly to provide information and knowledge. There are no prerequisite knowledge and competencies.

With 95% of the world’s population outside of the United States, exporting provides an opportunity for a business of any size to expand the scope of their market and grow their profits.  This short course demonstrates that even businesses with 20 or fewer employees can successfully export and explains how any business can learn how to sell in foreign markets with the assistance of the SBDC’s international trade services.

Course Organization

This course consists of one module that is delivered in a lecture format.  

Assessments and Grading

The course is ungraded.  There is a quiz at the end of the course to reinforce the key points as well as end of course survey.

Textbook and Reading Materials

Copies are each module’s slides and speaker notes are available for download.  There are no other materials needed.

Course Completion

A course completion certificate is provided with the submission of the training registration form, and the end of course satisfaction survey.
