How PTAC Can Assist Your Business

Government contracting is one way to expand your customer base and improve your sales and profits. However, as you might expect, dealing with the processes and paperwork is a challenge. That is where the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) can help. They are experts in assisting businesses in applying for and winning government contracts. In the last three fiscal years, over 17,000 contracts totaling in excess of $1.2 billion was awarded to PTAC clients. This self-paced, short video will outline the services PTAC provides and how to request their assistance in securing government contracts.

 How PTAC Can Assist Your Business

Course Developer

The course developer is a senior Procurement Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension's Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), part of the Business Development Program.  There is a network of procurement specialists located throughout the state on University of Missouri campuses and facilities, and on the campuses of other state universities.  Each provides counseling, coaching and training on the government contracting process.  If you have questions on the course's content, contact the center most convenient to your location which can be found at on the Extension website at and them enter “PTAC” in the search engine at the top of the page.

Course Description

The purpose of course is strictly to provide information and knowledge. There are no prerequisite knowledge and competencies.

Federal, state, local governments and local institutions such as schools purchase goods and services of all kinds from businesses of all sizes.  Contracting provides an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to grow sales and profits.  The Federal government alone awarded $594 billion in contracts in 2019.  In 2020, Missouri PTAC helped Missouri businesses win 7,389 contract worth over $544 million.  Although there are numerous opportunities, the contracting processes can be complicated.  This short course quickly reviews the services provided by the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers to help businesses compete for and win contracts. 

Course Objectives

By completing this course, the student will be introduced to 11 specific services provided by PTAC such as:

  • Your suitability for contracting
  • Registrations
  • Bid opportunities
  • Proposal preparation

Course Organization

This course consists of one module that is delivered in a lecture format.  

Assessments and Grading

The course is ungraded.  There is a quiz at the end of the course to reinforce the key points as well as end of course survey.

Textbook and Reading Materials

Copies of each module’s slides and speaker notes are available for download.  There are no other materials needed.

Course Completion

A course completion certificate is provided with the submission of the training registration form, completion of the required modules and the submission of the course satisfaction survey.
