2020 SBIR Week in the Midwest is a virtual, collaborative outreach effort connecting entrepreneurs working on advanced technologies to the country’s largest source of early-stage funding – the SBIR/STTR programs. Also known as America’s Seed Fund, the SBIR/STTR programs provide over $3.7 billion in funding to small businesses each year in a wide variety of technology areas.

The Missouri virtual event, hosted by the Missouri Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), and will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear directly from the participating federal agency program managers that administer over 5,500 new awards annually and to meet virtually one-on-one with program decision-makers.

9:00am-2:00pm – SBIR Week Primary Event: Live panels & presentations from FLC and USPTO
3:00pm-4:30pm – Early Stage Investor Panel – Sources and Challenges, Hosted by the Missouri SBDC and moderated by Jack Scatizzi, Executive Director of Missouri Technology Corporation
Sources of funding are critical to a startup's ability to progress through different stages of technology research, development and commercialization. Our panel of investors will cover a range of revenue/grant options related to all stages of their company's development, the advantages and consequences of each and factors that impact the best choices. Experts who have participated in non-dilutive funding, angel investing, and venture capital arenas will share their invaluable, “insider” knowledge
Tuesday, October 20
8:30am-10:00am – What it Takes to Win: SBIR Award Panel, Hosted by the Missouri SBDC and moderated by Harry Arader, BioGenerator
This panel will feature four Missouri-based SBIR-winning companies to share their stories of what worked and what didn’t work on their path to receiving SBIR funding. Join us to hear from these founders, each talking about SBIR awards from different agencies, and get first hand answers to all your questions.
10:15am-11:30am – Value Proposition Development & Presentation, Hosted by the Missouri SBDC

SBIR Program Representative one-on-one meetings with participating agency representatives. This is by scheduled appointment only. Registration required by October 15 at 9:00am CDT. Not all registrants may be eligible to schedule meetings. Limited appointments are available.

One-on-One Virtual Meetings: Once registered for SBIR Week in the Midwest: Missouri, registrants will receive a unique link allowing direct access to the scheduler system to select their meeting times. Each registrant can select up to four meetings per company.

SBIR Quad Chart Workshops - Dates: October 5, October 8, and October 12 (need only attend one)

In order to schedule your one on one meetings with SBIR/STTR personnel participating in SBIR Week in the Midwest, you must have a completed Quad Chart submitted to discuss with the program managers. Not sure what a Quad Chart is? Or how to develop yours? This workshop will help you prepare your Quad Chart and answer questions about how best to highlight both your technology and the business.

About the SBIR/STTR Program:
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a highly competitive United States Government non-dilutive funding source, coordinated by the Small Business Administration. It is intended to encourage domestic small businesses to engage in high-growth research and development (R&D). Funding takes the form of contracts or grants and the awardee projects must have the potential for commercialization while meeting specific U.S. Government R&D requirements.
The SBIR/STTR programs include over 4,000 new awards per year. These awards have helped U.S. innovators advance new technologies and have contributed to the creation of thousands of jobs.
